About YCCI-Liberia

Who We Are

Youth Climate Change Initiative – Liberia is a youth-led nonprofit working to strengthen the knowledge, leadership, and practical skills of children and young people so they can confront climate change and environmental degradation. The initiative was founded to ensure young people play an active and informed role in shaping climate solutions within their communities. Children and youth make up a large share of Liberia’s population and remain among the most affected by climate impacts. YCCI-Liberia helps them take part in discussions, decisions, and actions that build stronger, more resilient communities.

Mission

To strengthen the capacity of young people in Liberia and across Africa to act on climate change through education, community mobilisation, advocacy, and nature-based solutions.

Vision

A united youth movement leading sustained climate resilience and supporting Liberia’s pathway to sustainable development.

History & Founders

YCCI-Liberia was established in December 2015 after a group of young Liberians took part in COP21 in Paris, where the Paris Agreement was adopted. The experience renewed their commitment to climate action at home and inspired the creation of a youth-driven movement for environmental responsibility.

The initiative was later formalised by two young climate leaders whose dedication shaped its early direction. Their work focused on empowering children and youth through climate education, advocacy, and community mobilisation.
